It's natural to have some hesitations about hiring a designer, especially when there are so many options and alternatives! But, a cohesive brand experience is essential to attracting the kind of clients you crave. It doesn't have to be overwhelming. In fact, effective branding is one of the best investments you can make for your blossoming business! These are the 3 most common hesitations about hiring professional designer. 

1. "I can't afford it."

This is the most common myth I encounter. Honestly, I totally get it! My business is new and my budget is limited. Taking a leap and making a big investment in your business can be scary, especially when you're just starting out. But, more often than not, the big investments have the best return! Establishing a brand identity is no exception. 

We live in a world where first impressions are everything! People are impulsive. Customers are likely to make snap judgments about your product or service based on presentation alone. Having a professional logo is just the beginning. Your audience craves a real connection. Branding is about the way you make them feel. That's why I place such an emphasis on brand strategy in my own design practice! Brand design is an invaluable business investment. 


MYTH BUSTED: You can't afford to do business without a solid design strategy! Make an investment in your long-term success. If you have business dreams, you need to find a way to fit design and advertising into your budget. 

2. "I can do it myself"

I've been a self-proclaimed "Martha Stewart" of the modern world for almost as long as I can remember. I'm a DIY queen. Sometimes, I don't know my own limits! If you think I'm about to advocate against DIY design, you might be pleasantly surprised. We live in a day and age where a lot is expected of us. Our professional skills should be more well-rounded than ever. That is especially true for bosses and business owners! If you're a small business owner (like me) you probably wear many different hats. 

It would be all too easy to say you can't do it yourself. In reality, it's the internet! We have unlimited resources at our disposal. Who am I to determine what you are or are not capable of accomplishing on your own? Only you can make that judgment call. I'll never doubt your capability or your creativity, BUT I can tell you that a professional designer devotes all of his/her working hours to being the best for you so you can exceed at what you do best for your clients. That time is money. If you hired a designer, what would you save in terms of time and energy? 

I always recommend hiring professional designer who will establish a strategy and create an identity you can build upon. Lay a solid foundation for the future. If you feel confident to handle everything in between, work with someone who embraces your creativity and empowers you with the tools you'll need to be successful when your work together is complete. Finally, be careful with crowd share design and premade logos. Always look at your brand identity from a strategic, long-term perspective. Be sure your decision fits into the bigger picture for your business. 

Myth Busted: Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Trust the pros and spend the time and energy on your paying clients. 


3. "I'm not ready"

One of my favorite quotes comes from the always-incredible Amy Poehler, who says "Great people do things before they're ready." I firmly believe that. There is no perfect time to start. Life always deals in unexpected hands. There's no such thing as having all of your ducks in a row. If you wait to be "ready," that day may never come. The moment is what you make it. You're here. You've read this blog article long enough to make it to this point. Take a risk for yourself. Take a risk for your dreams. Show yourself that the ideas you have are worthwhile. Acknowledge your own talent. Believe that what you've got going on IS enough.  

Myth Busted: You ARE ready, and guess what? Branding is GREAT first step. Branding is a place to gain direction and create something visual to show for it. It's the perfect way to take that first leap.
